When Illness Strikes, Loneliness Hits Harder

Illness doesn’t just attack the body – it often isolates the soul. When you’re going through a health crisis, the physical pain is only one part of the struggle. The endless hospital visits, confusing medical terms, and financial stress can make you feel like you’re carrying the world on your shoulders.

I’m Prashant Pandey, and I know this feeling all too well. I faced a life-threatening condition – Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) – that turned my life upside down. Doctors gave me little time, I was put on strict bed rest, and my days were consumed by a whirlwind of tests, medications, and uncertainty. Worst of all, I was alone in my journey.

It was in that moment of isolation that I realized: every patient needs a community.

Why a Patient Community Matters

  • Emotional Support When You Need It Most

When you share your fears, victories, and setbacks with others who truly understand, you lighten the emotional load. A patient community becomes a safe space where you don’t have to explain your pain – they simply get it.

  • Real-Life Advice Beyond Google Searches

In my journey, I came across dozens of medical articles online, but none gave me the practical advice another patient could. From finding affordable medicines to knowing which hospital has shorter wait times – this is insider wisdom only fellow patients can offer.

  • Motivation Through Shared Stories

When you’re stuck in bed wondering if recovery is even possible, hearing from someone who’s been there can be life-changing. Stories of survival and hope can be just as important as the treatment itself.

  • Navigating Complex Healthcare Systems

India’s healthcare system can be overwhelming. From insurance paperwork to hospital referrals, patient communities help you find shortcuts and avoid costly mistakes.

The Problem: No Dedicated Patient Platform in India

While countries like the US and UK have strong online patient communities such as PatientsLikeMe and Inspire, We realized there was no dedicated platform in India where patients could come together to share experiences, learn from one another, and find emotional support.

The Indian healthcare conversation is often scattered across social media, making it hard for patients to find reliable, relatable, and timely guidance. That gap became my motivation.

My Turning Point: From Isolation to Inspiration

After my PE and DVT diagnosis, I spent weeks scrolling through forums and Facebook groups, hoping to find someone like me. I realized how comforting it was to read about people who had survived similar conditions. Their stories gave me hope, but they were scattered and unorganized.

That’s when I decided – if no such platform exists in India, we must create one ourselves.
